Jason Elliot Benda's Useful Files: Searching

So how do you find anything on the web? Well, that depends on what you are looking for. If you are seeking generic stuff, use the box below:

This box sends a text query to AltaVista, a grind-it-out general search engine. It has links to lots of things -- even a link to something I wrote!
(To prove it, use the button below, which is the same as typing "shot on Ehlo" in the box above.)
One problem with AltaVista is that sometimes it gives broken links. In fact, querying AltaVista for my pages on this server produces a lot of Version Eight pages, most of which are no longer there. According to AltaVista, the form below can be used for reporting inactive or expired URLs; if a URL submitted below returns a 404 (an error indicating the page is not found on the server), AltaVista should remove the page from its index.

Here's another inquiry, for finding books and movies at Amazon:
Here's another form for looking up information about movies and such on one of my favorite sites, the Internet Movie Database:

Don't want to buy a book (or CD), but want to read it anyway? The library may be waiting to see you!
